Quartz with Hematite
An excellent example of equant, well developed, glassy, double-terminated Quartz crystals included with disseminated Specular Hematite (Specularite), from the Frizington mining area of west Cumbria, England. The highly lustrous, stubby Quartz crystals average 1.5 cm along their terminated edges. The Quartz sits on a bed of micro-Specular black Hematite covering a thin matrix plate of greyish-white Quartz on top of remnant, shell-like layers of brick-red Hematite. The Quartz crystals are so heavily included with Specularite it makes them appear almost jet black.
