An arresting and stunning part-crystal of Azurite from the Tsumeb mine in the Oshikoto Region of Namibia. Azurite occurred in the supergene (near-surface) zone and the 1st and 2nd Oxidation Zones at Tsumeb, and although common, a number of very significant pockets were discovered between about 1929 and 1980. The actual pocket from which this specimen originates is not known, but it is most probably from one of these famous finds. The crystal measures 4.0 cm wide, 3 cm high and is 1.5 cm thick, and comprises of the top terminated part of a once somewhat taller crystal. Save for the line of detachment across its base, the remaining portion is perfect and undamaged. A little Dolomitic rock and micro-crystallised Duftite are attached to the rear of the crystal. The Azurite is intensely deep Azure blue, but when backlit, its thinner bevelled edges flash stunning electric blue, tending to bright violet. The termination is perfect also; where it becomes jagged, these sections are also terminated as part of its complex development. A magnificent Tsumeb Azurite.
