NATIVE Bismuth
Amongst the twelve species produced from Shaft 38 at Niederschlema in Saxony, Germany, Native Bismuth is probably its most famous mineral. This extremely fine miniature is a mass of intergrown plates and ribs of Native Bismuth, all graphite-lead grey with a dull yet metallic speckled lustre. The more exposed surfaces of the crystals have a silver patina which highlights the various crystal structures, of which there are many. In addition to crudely hoppered plates and stacked pagoda-like disks, several areas have a herringbone pattern of narrow chevroned crystals. A splendid Native Bismuth from Shaft 38 in Saxony.
