This rather fabulous large cabinet specimen is packed full of metallic maroon Cuprite crystals, richly distributed throughout a massive Cuprite and etched milky Quartz matrix. The only information that accompanied this specimen is a folded paper label headed "Sherborne School colln., 1960". under which is written Cuprite. This, and a more recent Paul Richards label attribute the specimen to Wheal Gorland, the choice of which I would not disagree. Because of the completly random orientation of the Cuprite octahedra, swathes of crystals present equilateral triangular faces with a characteristic, warm pinkish red faces. These micro-crystals also align epitaxially to form larger Cuprite crystals, exquisite under low magnification. This magnificent specimen is very favourably priced and will look tremendous when displayed.
