A super small cabinet specimen of Veszelyite from the famous Black Pine mine, a classic American location for this rare hydrated copper zinc phosphate hydroxide species. Veszelyite was first discovered at Black Pine mine in the early 1970s and it is renowned as one of the world's best localities for Veszelyite crystals. Some of the world's biggest crystals were mined there in the 1980s. Since that time, richer specimens have been discovered in China, but the crystals from Black Pine mine are far more elongated in form and very sharply defined. In this specimen, dark lustrous blue crystals of Veszelyite are sharply formed, bladed in habit and measuring up to 6 mm in length. Many are doubly-terminated. Tiny pale green balls of Malachite are in association on a Quartz matrix with some Fe-oxides. For reference, an article about the mine and its minerals was written by Dave Waisman and published in the Mineralogical Record (Vol. 23, no. 6) in 1992.
