Pyrargyrite
A stunning specimen of the silver-antimony sulphosalt Pyrargyrite as equant composite crystals on an ironed-stained quartzite matrix, from the Siegerland region of Rhineland-Palatinate state. The Pyrargyrite crystals form highly reflective, almost black, metallic crystals to 6 mm long with sharply defined prism faces, terminations and edges. Under magnification and strong transmitted light ruby-red tinges are seen at the face edges. Scattered over the matrix are many brassy-golden spheres of Marcasite and clusters of hemispherical Sphalerite crystals, themselves ruby-red in transmitted light. A superb specimen from Siegerland in Germany. The specimen is accompanied with a reasonably old looking label, Sbirka Nerostu (CSSR), yet written in what appears to be blue biro ink. The CSSR went under this name between 1960 and 1990.\n
