Fluorite
Judging by its handwritten label, this is an old-time yellow Fluorite specimen from the Marienberg mining district at Erzgebirge in Saxony, Germany. This complexly mineralised area exploited about 150 veins and is known to have contained around 100 mines between the 12th century to around 1960 when operations eventually ceased. No complete cubes are present due to the relative size of individual crystals with respect to the specimen's size. The crystals are a mild straw-lemon with quite gemmy corners grading to cloudy lemon-white centres; the largest crystal edge measures 3.5 cm. Small, 1 mm Chalcopyrite crystals and sucrosic white Quartz are deposited on some preferentially oriented faces. A nice straw-yellow Fluorite from Marienberg.
