An outstanding equant crystal of Spessartine Garnet set in, and standing proud of, a Quartz, Galena and Chalcopyrite matrix from North Mine at Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia. The rich burgundy crystal measures approximately 2.5 cm in all dimensions, although part of the lower half is embedded within the matrix. The crystal has many translucent pathways through which its true rich red wine colour manifests. The matrix is also interesting in that equant granules of Quartz to 5 mm are cemented together by a continuous framework phase of Galena. A superb and classic specimen of Spessartine Garnet with Galena from Broken Hill.
