Quartz Var Amethyst
Deep blackberry purple Amethyst Quartz crystals cover a matrix of milky white Quartz from Bansk' 'tiavnica in Slovakia. The colour intensity of the Amethyst is quite spectacular with individual crystals averaging around 0.7 cm, although one predominant crystal measures 1.5 cm. This is a particularly nice example encircled by smaller crystals which form a wreath-like crown. The Amethyst is gemmy to translucent and makes an incredibly attractive small cabinet specimen. It is from the well-known base metal vein-type epithermal deposit at Bansk' 'tiavnica, formerly known as Schemnitz.
