Pyromorphite
Without any shadow of doubt, Wheal Alfred, just one mile to the east of the coastal town of Hayle, is Cornwall's most famous locality for Pyromorphite. Ever since Pyromorphite was discovered at this old mine it has been highly sought after by collectors even leading to the local fabrication of faked specimens during Victorian times. This miniature has a 2.5 x 1.5 cm area of yellowish green Pyromorphite crystals sitting on a creamy, micro-granulated sucrosic textured Quartz matrix. The Pyromorphite crystals range from micro to the largest at 9 mm long. An accompanying, quite modern looking hand written label states the specimen was found in 1824, although no provenance it attached to this.
