Crednerite with Hydrocerussite Malachite and Calcite

An excellent specimen of the rare copper-manganese oxide Crednerite from the famous Torr Works quarry at Cranmore in Somerset, England; colloquially known as Merehead quarry. This attractive specimen nicely displays many of the features typical of the mineralised manganese pods encountered in the quarry but, sadly, not in the currently active quarry. The Crednerite occurs as sooty-black plates with bright black rims which group to form 'iron rose' like-structures in a 1.4 x 0.9 cm area. The Crednerite nestles against blocky cream to pale lemon-yellow Hydrocerussite resting on a bed of Calcite micro-crystals. A 0.7 cm diameter patch of bright emerald-green, fibrous Malachite contrasts nicely against the Calcite. A choice example of Crednerite from Torr Works.
