Chalcocite
A magnificent, museum grade stack of dark bluish-black Chalcocite crystals from Levant mine at Pendeen in Cornwall. The Levant mine buildings sit on the cliff tops again the spectacular backdrop of the rugged Cornish coastline and the Atlantic Ocean, whose complex underground workings extend out beneath the seabed. The Chalcocite has formed as a roughly shaped mushroom-like structure with vertical, foliated crystalline prism faces and an exquisite terminated cap composed of smooth, gently curved convex platelets of 1.2 to 1.5 cm diameter. It’s a wonderful Cornish Chalcocite, the quality of which is seldom seen and would not look out of place in the Philip Rashleigh Collection held in the Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro.\n
