Fluorite
Of all Weardale's Fluorite localities, specimens from the West Pasture mine, just north of Stanhope, are probably the most easily recognised because of their distinct and beautiful apple-green colour. Fluorite from this mine is known to fade when exposed to sunlight, so the many specimen kept on open display are now muddy green. This superb small miniature is certainly not one of these as it is a vibrant light yellowish apple, with a tangy, sour accent. Lustrous glassy cubic crystals to 2 cm form an intergrown group with an occasional infilling between crystals of micro-drusy colourless to milky Quartz, giving a sucrosic texture in places. A Weardale classic, but if you are the purchaser, do keep it out of light, say in a drawer, to preserve its pristine condition.
