Mimetite Var. CAMPYLITE
Campylite, a variety of Mimetite, is synonymous in Britain with Dry Gill mine in the Caldbeck Fells of Cumbria, England. Collecting in the Caldbeck Fells has now been banned for about twenty years, but before this, to reach the mine high above Roughton Gill to the north and Carrock mine to the south, a very steep and strenuous hike was required. This large thumbnail is composed of numerous deep apricot, almost spherical crystal clysters intergrown over a characteristic matrix of sooty black 'wad', a mixture of manganese oxides, probably including Roman'chite.
