This large ex-matrix Azurite crystal is a fabulous specimen from the Tsumeb mine in Namibia and one which will feature well in any specialist collection. Measuring 5.6 x 4.7 cm and up to 1.6 cm thick, it is a chunky yet elegant large miniature with a roughly 2.5 x 1 cm section pseudomorphed to granular, deep leafy-emerald green Malachite. The base is cleaved across its original area of attachment, but perfectly horizontal to its upright display position. The termination is spear or chisel-shaped and asymmetric, biased towards one longer face to one side. The prism is opaque deep royal blue, but as is often the case with Tsumeb Azurite, the thinner outer faces and edges sometimes twinkle electric blue when light is able to pass through. The faces on one side are mirror smooth while the opposite faces and terminations are pitted by natural etching, resulting in a very beautiful effect. This is without doubt a splendid Azurite crystal from Tsumeb.
