FERROAXINITE
Gemmy, triclinic bladed crystals of clove brown Axinite-(Fe), aka Ferroaxinite, measuring up to 4.3 cm, adorn a creamy-white matrix from the classic locality of Saint Christophe-en-Oisans. Bourg d'Oisans, a commune in the department of Isère in the French Alps. The Axinite-(Fe) forms razor-sharp crystals and have good transparency with gemmy zones; Axinite being a calcium aluminium boro-silicate . When Axinite was first discovered on the Bourg d'Oisans it was considered the best of its species in the world. Present day collecting in this area apparently yields poor specimens at best, so these original examples are now regarded as French classics!
