Kaolinite ps. after Orthoclase
Colloquially known as a 'Pig's Egg' by miners and collectors alike, Kaolinite pseudomorphs after Orthoclase feldspar were found within the China Clay deposits in a number of quarries around St. Austell in Cornwall. From the Melbur China Clay Pit at St. Stephen-in-Brannel, Cornwall, this is a first class example, being made from almost pure Kaolinite. It is a uniform creamy-white with well-defined sharp edges and faces. The pseudomorph is that of a former Orthoclase Carlsbad twin. A classic from the china clay suite of minerals in the St. Austell mining district.
