Fluorite
The discovery of this remarkable occurrence of vivid, minty-emerald-green Fluorite was made sometime prior to 2004 at a locality some 3 km from Riemvasmaak in the Siyanda District of Northern Cape Province, South Africa. This terrific specimen is characteristic in both colour and habit for Riemvasmaak, with large well-formed octahedral crystals occurring with greyish milky Quartz crystals. The prime octahedral crystal is 8 cm tall and rests at an angle to the base so that its apex points towards the centre of the specimen. The side of this crystal facing out from the specimen is a cleaved surface, but this naturally faces the back and remains completely unseen. Other small pyramidal Fluorite crystals are scattered around the main crystal and contrast well with the adjacent Quartz. The largest Quartz crystal is just under 2 cm tall and about 1 x 1 cm in section. A showy Fluorite of striking colour from South Africa.
