The locality at Nyíri in the Zemplén Mountains of Hungary is well known for its Quartz and varieties of Quartz, especially Amethyst. This cabinet specimen is of an exquisitely coloured lavender Amethyst forming a undulating, drusy surface over a matrix of pinkish-cream massive Quartz. Small Amethyst crystals to a few millimetres have developed in botryoidal domed clusters, typically about 2 cm diameter and covering all the display surfaces. The small size of crystals combined with their hemispherical topology results in a silky lustre across the entire surface. The colour and lustre are beautiful, not often is such a pure and vivid lavender seen in the mineral kingdom.\n
