GREEN Anglesite on Goethite
The MMM Mine at Broken Hill in New South Wales, Australia, is known for its rare green Anglesite crystals, a colour, I think, unique to this locality. Such specimens very seldom appear for sale and are unusual even in good private and museum Broken Hill collections. This specimen is striking because of how the gemmy, brilliant lime-green crystals contrast superbly against the dark red-brown Goethite gossan matrix. Three Anglesite crystals of up to almost 5 mm sit is an approximate line across the matrix, all with a bright glassy lustre and fine, micro-striated crystal faces. The crystals are completely transparent and although small, leap out due to their startling colour shown to maximum advantage on the dark Goethite. I say small, but for this variety of green Anglesite, they are probably about as big as they come; it is one of those minerals which appears to have a size limitation! Green Anglesite is one of those must-have varieties from Broken Hill and this is an excellent opportunity to acquire three exquisite crystals.
