Marcasite on Quartz
A mound of spikey, hedgehog-like acicular Quartz crystals with apple-olive-green Chlorite inclusions, all surfaces of which are encrusted with micro-crystals of Marcasite. From South Lode at Wheal Jane near to Baldhu, Kea, Cornwall, the habit and colour of the Quartz is highly characteristic of Wheal Jane material. The specimen sits well on a naturally flat base and has an overall greyish-green appearance peppered by metallic slivery-gold Marcasite. This mine first opened in 1740 but is currently best remembered for its final period of operation during the 1970s and 80s.
