BARYTE with GALENA
Translucent, pale sky-blue blades of Baryte form a series of five separated, parallel plates over and into a matrix of lustrous silver cuboctahedral Galena crystals. This large miniature is from the Christian-Levin mine at Essen in North Rhine-Westphalia, a mine within the Ruhr Coal Mining area. Each Baryte plate measures between 2.0 and 2.8 cm wide, about 1.5 cm high and 4 mm thick, all with a bright glassy lustre. The edges of the crystals are naturally ragged due to the way in which they have developed. A lovely example of well crystallised Baryte from the Christian-Levin mine.
