An excellent orthorhombic crystal of Tantalite-(Mn) from the S'o Jo'o del Rei pegmatite province of Nazareno in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This ex-matrix, 2.5 cm opaque metallic black crystal has a 1.2 cm long crystal attached at one side. Tantalite-(Mn) forms a continuous series with Tantalite-(Fe) and was formerly named manganotantalite. Tantalite mineralisation is often associated with complex pegmatite bodies and this is a terrific example of the species. This small miniature is mounted vertically on a small colourless acrylic base.
