Sphalerite on Dolomite
A fine example of Sphalerite with Dolomite from the La Troya mine at Mutiloa in Guipúzcoa Province, Spain. The Sphalerite forms inter-grown ridges and clusters of complex faced crystals to 1.4 cm of deep brown with occasional, patchy translucent yellow areas, all with a high lustre. The Sphalerite is associated with creamy Dolomite displaying typical saddle shaped crystals to nearly 1 cm with an attractive satin lustre and covering a light grey limestone matrix. The mine worked a Mississippi Valley Type (MVT) lead-zinc sulphide deposit until 1993. A remarkably fine specimen from from La Troya mine in the Basque Country of north-east Spain.
