Libethenite
An approximately 4 x 3 cm area of micro-crystallised dark olive green Libethenite covers an iron- stained chloritic Killas matrix from Wheal Phoenix near Linkinhorne in Cornwall, England. Libethenite, a hydrated copper phosphate, forms intergrown crystals averaging 0.25 mm and such a dark shade of green they appear almost black. The specimen is accompanied with three labels: two differing styles from the same collection and a John L.R. Weller stock label (Towan Gems & Minerals, Bank Street, Newquay). This shop was in Newquay town centre during the 1970s.
