This is a remarkable and significant Welsh Pyromorphite specimen. Recorded as from "Vale of Towy", it is specifically from Cystanog mine which lies in the Vale of Towy. Pyromorphite was known from this small mine in the early 20th century but only in small museum specimens that were forgotten about. The occurrence was rediscovered during the early 21st century and some nicely crystallized small hand specimens were recovered, but this very large cabinet piece is on an entirely different level. It is a museum quality specimen and having worked at the National Museum in Wales for two decades I can categorically say that they have nothing remotely comparable. The Pyromorphite is microcrystalline, but completely coats the upper surface of a porous Quartz-Goethite gossan as matt, mushy-pea green moss-like growths and florets. This is an important Welsh Pyromorphite from southwest Wales. Due to its size additional postage charges may apply.
