Cerussite on Dolomite
Buttermilk cream Dolomite forms a shell-like hollow cast, the underside displaying the impressions of the bladed crystals the Dolomite originally covered. From the Tsumeb mine in Namibia, it is this side on which the Cerussite crystals have formed. The upper surface of the cast is light tan Dolomite with a gently undulating cockscomb texture. This specimen would be best displayed upside down so as to show off the slightly smoky and gemmy Cerussite crystals, richly scattered over one half of the surface. The Cerussite displays various crystal habits, some as more complex V-twins and some as repeated twins, creating pseudohexagonal disks of solid crystalline Cerussite. This large miniature/small cabinet specimen is ex. The Sussman Collection, complete with label. \n
