ADAMITE on ARAGONITE
Light apple green Adamite forms a gently curving botryoidal surface surrounded by undulating druses of snow-white Aragonite covering a light pink dolomitic matrix. This lovely miniature is from the historic mining region around Lavrion in the Attik' Prefecture of Greece. This mining district dates to Classical Greek times and is famed for its diverse wealth of specimen grade minerals. The Adamite covers a patch of approximately 3.5 cm long by between 0.5 to 1.5 cm broad. The Aragonite appears like a solid white coating but examined with a loupe is revealed to be composed of glassy acicular needles which clearly show off the structure of crystalline Aragonite. A delightful miniature from the Lavrion mining district in southern Greece.
