Rhodochrosite
Wutong mine in China has, in just over the last decade, produced some important Rhodochrosite specimens and become one of the world's premier locations for the species. This lovely single crystal is really quite large, around 9 cm across and 10.6 cm tip to tip between its widest points. Wutong mine (also known as Wudong mine) is in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of southeast China. The primary, first generation Rhodochrosite crystal is a fabulous deep candyfloss cherry pink forming a lozenge-shaped (or diamond) highly flattened rhombic crystal with bevelled edges and a fabulous satin lustre. One face and two rims are entirely preferentially coated with micro-granular Rhodochrosite of a very pretty light blush pink with a matt lustre. A highly unusual and rare cabinet specimen featuring two generations of Rhodochrosite from the Wutong mine in China.
