Quartz var. Amethyst
Wheal Uny was a tin mine a little to the south of Redruth and east of Carn Brea. Although small specimens of Cassiterite and Bismuthinite have been found here, it is for its Amethyst Quartz the mine has become well known amongst collectors of Cornish and British minerals. This is a fine miniature of this purple variety of Quartz, occurring as light violet, well terminated hexagonal crystals averaging 0.5 to 0.7 cm across. The Amethyst covers a porous milky Quartz matrix containing a little Chalcopyrite and displaying crude epimorphs in its base, probably after Quartz.
