Calcite
Mining around the village of Gy'ngy'soroszi began in the Middle Ages, working a polymetallic ore body. The old mine and dumps cover the densely wooded hillsides where over sixty mineral species are recorded. This lovely large cabinet specimen of translucent, milky-white Calcite is composed of trigonal scalenohedral crystals to over 5.5 cm tall with a bright glassy lustre. Under LWUV the entire specimen fluoresces pinkish-red grading to reddish orange terminations. A fine specimen from the ancient mining district of Gy'ngy'soroszi in the M'tra Mountains of Hungary.
