Rhodochrosite
Rhodochrosite, or manganese carbonate, is always such a beautiful mineral, whether that is as bright pink stalactites from Argentina, intense cerise red rhombic crystals from Colorado or bright pastel pink rosettes from Romania. This cabinet sized specimen from the latter occurrence at Cavnic is simply wonderful. Two slightly 'domed' aggregates of Rhodochrosite are entirely coated with bright pink thin bladed crystals of Rhodochrosite aggregated into rosettes. Not only is the colour superb, but the undamaged state of these bladed crystals is remarkable. At one end a small 'nodule' of pale cream-pink Kutnohorite sits upon the Rhodochrosite and along one edge small colourless terminated Quartz crystals protrude. A beautiful, and large specimen of Romanian Rhodochrosite, from the Type Locality region and of the highest quality just waiting to be the focal point of a display. Ex Stoppani collection.
