Calcite Twin
A gemmy and lustrous, twinned colourless Calcite crystal from the iron mining region around the town of Egremont in west Cumbria, England. This ‘heart’ twin was in the Lindsay Greenbank Collection who acquired it in an exchange with the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology at the University of Cambridge. This Cambridge label accompanies this specimen, together with that from Lindsay’s Collection (No. L.G. 127-1549). Striations on the crystal faces indicate the orientation of the three intersecting pyramidal faces on each twin; the specimen having an overall triangular aspect. A small patch of red-brown Hematite nestles at its area of contact on the back of the specimen. An excellent gemmy Calcite heart twin from West Cumbria, a true Northern England classic!\n
