Bournonite with Quartz
Silver-grey Bournonite crystals measuring to 1.7 cm form bladed, cogwheel-twins, intergrown amongst a later development of translucent Quartz crystals, from Herodsfoot mine at Lanreath in Cornwall. This small miniature has a rich content of Bournonite crystals for its size and makes a fine representative specimen for display. Three-quarters of the base is composed of massive Bournonite, forming the roots of crystals which manifest on top. Bournonite is a lead-copper sulphosalt who type locality is Wheal Boys, some 30 km north-west of Herodsfoot. This specimen is accompanied with a well-known and most respected British collector’s label.
