Clearly a specimen from the West Cumberland iron mining district, but displaying Calcite crystals most unusual for the area. Sitting on top of a brick-red and earthy-tan Hematite matrix is a rich coverage of large, semi-transparent Calcite crystals up to just over 3.5 cm in length. The Calcite forms broad, colourless modified rhombohedral crystals, some transparent, and all with mirror-smooth faces and slightly curved faces and edges. A delightful and different West Cumbrian Calcite.
