Calcite
This quite remarkable Calcite from the P?'bram Mining District in the Czech Republic is eye-catching for its squat prismatic black crystals and terminations of a completely different colour and lustre. The largest crystal measures 1.8 x 1.0 x 0.8 cm and for all six major crystals, the glassy black prism faces seemingly wrap over and onto the periphery of the hexagonal termination. These then end, leaving visible the inner core of Calcite containing inclusions of finely disseminated Pyrite. The Pyrite imparts a dull brassy hue and often turns a subtle iridescent speckled green. A delightful small miniature of a most peculiar, yet impressive habit.
