Mimetite var. Campylite
Toffee orange druses of globular Campylite, a variety of Mimetite, form a near-continuous lustrous surface over the display face of a milky white Quartz matrix. This most attractive cabinet specimen is from the world-famous Dry Gill mine close to the heart of the Caldbeck Fells. This mine lies in the high ground between Carrock Fell to the south east and High Pike to the north west. Dry Gill mine was a favourite haunt of mineral collectors during the 1970s. Once you had climbed up the steep slopes to reach the mine, underground access was relatively easy. However, this was a dangerous mine to enter due to unstable ground and the hidden danger of seemingly innocuous drives whose floors were made from wood of dubious strength, spanning deep stopes beneath. This is a rich and beautiful specimen and of most attractive colour.
