Description
An old-time specimen of Mimetite in a crystal habit that is rare from the upper development of the Tsumeb mine in Namibia. The accompanying old label states the specimen was from the #5 Sohle (Level), a pre-1918 specimen. Crystals of prismatic pale lemon-yellow Mimetite with light lime green cores measure to nearly 2 cm tall. They have well-formed flat pinacoid terminations and are developed in parallel clusters on a yellowish pastel green Mimetite matrix. The Mimetite crystals are particularly attractive and unusual because the majority of each prism is light green, only changing to delicate yellow caps over the final few millimetres. Please be aware some of the crystals are broken off towards their bases revealing a light greyish-green core. Such damage is unfortunate, but no doubt a reflection on the age of the specimen in times when careful extraction was not understood. It is a fabulous a rare specimen of Mimetite from Tsumeb, the likes of which few collectors will possess.
