As the name implies, Lookout Pass Thallium Prospect in Tooele Co., Utah, USA, contains thallium-bearing minerals. Some of these are not easy to identify without chemical analysis, but one method is to study these minerals using a Scanning Electron Microscope to analyse flat, polished surfaces. This polished block has been produced for exactly this purpose and is shown to contain both the rare thallium oxide, Avicennite, but also the rare antimony oxide mineral, Senarmontite. The overall dimensions are for the polished block, but the sample within this measures about 15 mm x 9 mm.
