Quartz (EISENKIESEL) on Hematite$1,500.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
Well-developed crystal clusters of sparkling orange-red Eisenkiesel Quartz form a striking display upon a thin (1 cm thick) but strong plate of Hematite. The double-sided surfaces of the Hematite are coated Quartz and Specularite Hematite. The lower surface, which forms an undulating but relatively flat base to the specimen is almost entirely coated with a layer of finely crystallized colourless pyramidal Quartz crystals, but has damage from where it sits. The upper display surface, however, is much more spectacular, with a uniform layer of Specularite Hematite as glossy black bladed crystals, some mottled with a fine dusting of medium red-brown Goethite. The patternation in colour is lovely and is much enhanced by the clusters of orange-red Eisenkiesel Quartz, making a highly distinctive large display piece. Ex Bill Creighton Collection, no. 225, this specimen is accompanied by his small handwritten label which records that it came from the Lonely Hearts section of Florence mine. The Lonely Hearts orebody extended between Florence and the neighbouring Ullcoats mine and was one of the last parts of the mines that was accessible before closure and flooding.
