A very rich specimen of dense, black lustrous Bannisterite from the Zinc Corporation mine at Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia. The Broken Hill ore body is the only location that has produced substantial specimens of Bannisterite. This specimen came with the Milton Lavers Collection in which there were very few examples. This specimen displays characteristic platy crystal sections and cleavages, measuring to 7.5 cm and are associated with embedded crystals of pink-red Rhodonite. A prismatic, translucent white Quartz crystal protrudes out from one side of the specimen and is partly coated with Pyrite. On a matrix of Rhodonite and Galena, this is a rich and excellent Bannisterite from the Zinc Corporation mine.
