Densely intergrown and richly coloured, dark cranberry-red crystals of Grossular Garnet from the Schwarze Wand in the Tauern Valley, Austria. Superbly lustrous Grossular crystals measure to around 5 mm on a vein of massive, orange caramel Grossular covering a greyish sage green country rock. The Grossular forms almost spherical, rhombic-dodecahedron crystals with perfectly crisp edges and faces, many of which are modified further, so producing even more complex crystals. Strongly backlit the crystals are translucent and transmit an inner deep cranberry glow, with many gemmy zones. It’s a beautiful specimen from Schwarze Wand and would be outstanding in a collection of Garnet species.\n
