Celestine with NATIVE Sulphur
The Native Sulphur deposit at Tarnobrzeg in south eastern Poland has been exploited by open pit mining, the abandoned pit now forming a large lake. The strontium sulphate Celestine widely occurred in this limestone-hosted deposit and this attractive miniature is formed of three creamy tan to colourless crystals is a divergent fan. The crystals measure 3.7, 4.2 and 5.2 cm tall, forming thick glassy prisms which grade from translucent bases to near gemmy terminations. Between the roots of the Celestine crystals at where they each join, bright canary yellow Native Sulphur forms small crystals and granular infillings. Under LWUV light the Celestine fluoresces bright pure white with ethereal zones along the crystal centres.
