It seems remarkable that a specimen of smooth mammillary Smithsonite - something that if we are honest is known from many places around the world - can give off such distinctive vibes that its provenance can be known in an instant, but such is the distinctive quality of Choix Smithsonite. Not only does this wonderful small cabinet specimen show the classic bright bubble-gum pink colour of Smithsonite from Choix, but more importantly is its stunning silky lustre created by the textured micro-crystals which is arguably much more iconic of this famous Mexican locality. This magnificent piece presents a 4 mm thick crust over an underlying matrix of granular pinkish Smithsonite. This locality is known to have produced a wide range of colours of Smithsonite, but it is the pink that is most associated with it and is consequently the most desirable. A sublime pink Smithsonite from Choix, just calling out to take pride of place in a colourful cabinet. Ex Peter Rosewarne Collection.
