Galena
A great, well crystallised Galena from the lead-zinc Sweetwater mine in Reynolds County, Missouri, USA. A single bright greyish-silver cubic Galena crystal, measuring 3.5 x 2.9 x 2.4 cm with tiny corner modifications to the octahedron, is partly surrounded by well developed, equant cuboctahedral Galena crystals of 0.5 to 0.7 cm. This large miniature was in the collection of the late Michael Philip Cooper, and is accompanied with his label. Mick Cooper contributed many articles and photographs to The Mineralogical Record and was the co-author of 'Minerals of the English Lake District: Caldbeck Fells' (1990) and author of 'Robbing the Sparry Garniture'A 200-Year History of British Mineral Dealers, 1750-1950' (2006).
