Acanthite is the low temperature silver sulphide dimorph of Argentite and in this rich example occurs as crude composite crystals of up to 2 cm across in a coarsely crystallised, pinkish, granitic matrix. From the classic Freiberg mining district in Saxony, Germany, the Acanthite forms partly developed individual crystals to over 1 cm, each displaying several, often rounded faces with pitted and striated surfaces. The specimen looks good stood vertically with the matrix sat horizontally forming the base. A great specimen of this classic silver species from Freiberg.
