Surely this small cabinet specimen ticks all the boxes with being an excellent example of a Japan Law twin and, indeed, from Japan! From Kurasawa mine at Makioka-cho in Yamanashi Prefecture, a little to the west of Tokyo, several flatted hexagonal Quartz crystals form a stacked chain of prisms, all mainly transparent to semi-transparent with translucent zones and a creamy white frosting in places over the surface. Two crystals form a distinct Japan Law twin, branching at close to 90 degrees and forming a textbook example. Please note the topmost crystal, one not an integral part of the twin, has been repaired to join back onto the crest of larger twin having become detached along a weakened fracture plane. The professional repair is done from the back of the specimen and does not show at all when displayed.
