A quite splendid terminated golden Baryte on Calcite from the Elk Creek locality in South Dakota, USA. A 6.8 cm long golden-amber Baryte crystal, rhombic in cross section, lies horizontal and parallel to a cojoined unterminated Baryte 5.3 cm long. The two rest on an aesthetic tall mound of drusy, malty-tan micro-crystals of Calcite coating a dark to mid-grey slaty matrix which is only visible on its flat sawn base. This lovely specimen comes with a Michael Philip Cooper label, the greatly missed late author of the 'Minerals of the Caldbeck Fells' and 'Robbing the Sparry Garniture'.
