Bournonite with Siderite
One of the earliest known localities for the rare lead sulphosalt species Bournonite, Príbram in Central Bohemia, is not renowned for large individual crystals, making this magnificent individual, flat, tabular, glossy, metallic, dark gun metal grey crystal on matrix an absolute treasure. Even crystals in the major historic museums of Europe only appear to have crystals to less than 2.4 cm on matrix, making this 2.7 cm wide crystal exceptional. The Bournonite crystal is partly surrounded by fawn coloured rhombic Siderite with a sugary layer of tiny Quartz crystals as partial overgrowth on a Dolomite-Quartz-Pyrite matrix. The top of the Bournonite crystal is perfectly formed, and has no damage. The specimen also comes with two old labels, one from Julius Bohm indicating that it was owned by Johann Weinberger (1838-1915). Ex Professor Werner Paar Collection.
