Apophyllite occurs at Broken Hill as very fine crystals and this is an excellent example. Colourless glassy crystals with a brilliant lustre are developed up to 1 cm, completely covering a narrow rib of metamorphosed matrix, so forming a highly reflective mound. The general term 'Apophyllite' is commonly used for such material from Broken Hill, so covering specific species such as Fluorapophyllite-(K), -(Na) and Hydroxyapophyllite-(K).
